Welcome to Oz

3rd Feb

We arrived in Perth early yesterday morning after a long, tightly-packed flight on Air Asia X - the X doesn't stand for Xtra space. But otherwise the flight was fine, albeit neither of us got any sleep. Lovely welcome from Linda and Ross, and the Perth weather was kind - not too hot for our first day. Nice gentle trip in the afternoon to see a world class engineering wonder - the Mundaring Weir, a dam which is part of the water supply for the gold mining town of Kalgorlie linked by a 560km pipeline through the desert. We also saw our first kangaroos of the trip.

Today Linda let us borrow her car so we visited the Swan Valley, nice walk by Bells Rapids spotting Australian Robins and Beeeaters and a visit to a craft brewery to pick up a few bottles for this evenings curry night. Great evening, lovely food and a chance to meet some more friends of Linda and Ross, John and Margie and Paul and Shasha.

Time for bed now as we are off to Yallingup tomorrow to prepare for their Vasse Market on Saturday. I'll upload some pics later.
